Phandeeyar helps change agents – social & civic entrepreneurs, CSOs & independent media – use technology to increase the impact of their work
Phandeeyar provides seed funding, mentoring and other support to civic and social entrepreneurs who are using technology for social impact. In 2016, Phandeeyar supported Myanma Fifth Estate to create OpenHllutaw.info, a platform that makes it easy for people in Myanmar to engage with their parliamentary representatives.
Open Data Program
Phandeeyar is driving the development of the open data movement in Myanmar. We run OpenDevelopmentMyanmar.net, an interactive open data portal full of easily accessible information about Myanmar. We also work with local organizations, independent media and the tech community to help them use data in their work.
Tech for Peace
Online hate speech is a very serious issue in Myanmar. Phandeeyar helps community organizations use social media and digital content to promote positive messages about peace, tolerance and inter-communal harmony.
While connectivity has exploded in Myanmar, but almost nothing has been done to protect the rights of the country’s internet users. Phandeeyar
Together with MIDO, MCRB and EngageMedia we brought together leaders from tech, government, civil society and media for the Myanmar Digital Rights Forum. The Forum drew significant attention to these critical issues (see here) and enabled participants develop plans to address them.
Myanmar’s connectivity revolution poses opportunities and challenges for local media. Phandeeyar runs workshops, seminars and meetups to help independent voices thrive in Myanmar’s new digital media environment.
